Koninklijke Holland Beker

Men Single Sculls Final.<br/>Bosbaan, 2012

With a history of more than hundred years, the Koninklijke Holland Beker is the most prestigious regatta on the Dutch rowing calendar. In preparation for the 2012 London Olympic Games, many big names participated on the Bosbaan near Amsterdam, the oldest man-made rowing course in the world. There was fierce competition. The numbers one and two in the single sculls in Amsterdam, Mahe Drysedale and Ondrej Synek, would also finish first and second in the Olympic finals, two months later.

I spent two days as a landscape photographer lost in a sports event, making panoramas at the start of the rowing course. For those unfamiliar with the start in rowing: this is where the boats are lined up in deep silence. Nerve wrecking.

This panorama is composed of 6 exposures with a Hasselblad H3D-22 and HC 3.5/35mm wide angle lens.
